Hey Mandy! I'm considering going with one of Bill Berg's chromatic dulcimers (mountainmademusic) as the other options for fully chromatic are a bit more steep. The only thing i have mixed feelings on is the VSL - they are 26 3/16". I'm a guy with slightly above average hand size and I'd be a little worried about sacrificing tone compared to the longer VSL options. Is that a valid concern? However, if it has a great tone, then undoubtedly the shorter VSL is a win for doing more complex chords or melodies. I'm planning on using it for personal, gig, and studio work. We are a country music outfit and I just really want a nice full dulcimer sound out of it. Also - it's all cherry - do you have any thoughts on that impacting the sound?

When I rest my thumb during the strike, when I pick my hand up to do the strum it sounds the 5th string. Pretty much no matter how lightly I rest on the 5th string it makes a sound. And when I speed up it ends up in a state of almost constant sound. Not very loud but noticeable. Any tips?

I’m thrilled to have found you. I’ve had my dulcimer for several years and had decided that I would have to settle for being the audience (someone has to, right). I even tried lessons and the instructor spent my time talking politics and religion and I felt like I was just too dumb so he gave up. I’m 76 years old and today I removed my old strings, cleaned my fretboard, put on the new strings and played Mary had a little lamb. All thanks to you. I’m thrilled and keep up the good work. God bless you too!

I love the sound of the banjo. I've just ordered a banjo, even though I know nothing about instruments. But I want to learn. Since there aren't many teachers here in Germany who offer it, I can only do it with RUclips. Wish me luck. :)

Happy Sunday! I’m a newbie to the banjo. I own a Luxor tenor banjo (CGDA tuning) with light gauge strings. I’m having trouble locating Earthwood strings in light gauge. For that matter I can’t find Tenor strings in light gauge. Which strings, if any, from a 5 string light gauge set can I use? I welcome your comments. Lovin ya in Jesus
